Episode 94: Can You Really Get Stronger With Just 15 Minutes of Training? | Jason DeBruler of Biohack Studios

Jason DeBruler of Biohack Studios shares how fitness technology is changing workouts and longevity in St. Pete.

What if getting stronger didn’t mean spending hours at the gym every week?

That’s the idea behind Biohack Studios in St. Pete, where founder Jason DeBruler is taking a very different approach to fitness.

In Episode 94 of Talkin’ St. Pete, Ryan Bogden sits down with Jason to talk about shorter workouts, new fitness technology, longevity, and why he believes people can get more out of their training without spending their lives in the gym.

Can 15 Minutes Really Be Enough?

One of the biggest surprises from the conversation is just how short the workouts can be.

Jason says the average Biohack Studios member does resistance training for about 15 minutes, twice a week.

The main technology behind those workouts is ARX, a computer controlled resistance training system that uses a motor instead of traditional weights. The machine responds to the amount of force a person produces throughout the movement.

Jason’s argument is simple: traditional workouts can take longer because the resistance isn’t equally challenging through every part of the movement. With ARX, he says the resistance adapts as you push and pull, allowing the workout to become much more intense in a shorter amount of time.

For people balancing work, family, and everything else happening in their lives, that’s a big part of what Biohack Studios is trying to solve.

How much time do you really need to spend working out if the workout itself becomes more efficient?

What Exactly Is Biohacking?

Jason describes biohacking as finding ways to get more out of your biology.

At his Central Avenue studio in St. Petersburg, that means bringing several fitness and wellness technologies together under one roof.

Beyond ARX resistance training, Jason talks with Ryan about red light therapy, cold exposure, Vasper, CAROL bikes, the BioCharger, and VO2 max testing.

But the studio isn’t built around spending your entire day there.

Members schedule the equipment they want through an app, arrive when it works for them, complete their session, and get back to their day.

That was important to Jason because Biohack Studios was designed for people who care about their health but may not have hours every week to dedicate to a traditional gym.

Fitness Is About More Than Looking Good

The conversation eventually moves beyond workouts and into a bigger topic: how do you want to feel as you get older?

Jason believes resistance training becomes even more important with age. He talks about maintaining muscle, bone strength, mobility, and cardiovascular fitness instead of waiting until those things become harder to improve.

It’s also personal for him.

Part of the idea behind Biohack Studios came from thinking about his own parents and asking where someone in their 60s or 70s could go for resistance training without feeling lost or intimidated by a traditional gym.

That changed the way he thought about fitness.

The goal wasn’t simply to create another place to work out in St. Pete. He wanted to create something for people who care about staying strong and active for the long run.

How Biohack Studios Ended Up in St. Pete

Jason’s path to opening Biohack Studios didn’t start with plans to build a gym.

Years ago, he discovered ARX while watching a podcast and became fascinated by the technology. He eventually traveled to Austin to see it for himself and became involved with the company, first through marketing and sales and later as its CEO.

He then brought the equipment to St. Petersburg, Florida, initially as a showroom.

People started discovering what was inside and asking if they could actually use it.

That interest helped turn the showroom into Biohack Studios, giving St. Pete locals access to equipment that Jason had originally encountered through the longevity and fitness technology world.

Today, Biohack Studios adds another option to a city already filled with running clubs, beach workouts, Pilates, yoga, traditional gyms, and other fitness communities.

How Far Is Too Far With Biohacking?

This episode goes well beyond exercise.

Ryan and Jason also get into some of the bigger conversations happening around longevity, including sleep, nutrition, sauna and cold exposure, GLP-1 medications, hormones, peptides, and psychedelics.

Jason shares his own experiences and views, but the conversation also shows how quickly the health and longevity space is changing.

There’s more information available than ever. The harder part is figuring out what actually works, what has strong evidence behind it, and what makes sense for an individual person.

Some of the medical treatments discussed in the episode require professional medical guidance and can carry risks, so they shouldn’t be treated as one-size-fits-all recommendations.

But underneath all of those topics is a much simpler question:

Can we use new technology to stay stronger, healthier, and active longer without making fitness our entire life?

That’s the bet Jason DeBruler is making with Biohack Studios right here in St. Pete.
