How a Local Gym Became One of St. Pete’s Strongest Fitness Communities
How a Local Gym Became One of St. Pete’s Strongest Fitness Communities

In Episode 3 of Talkin’ St. Pete, host Ryan Bogden features Jodi Stabile, founder of Sweat St. Pete, a group fitness gym in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Jodi has been in fitness for nearly 20 years, but this episode goes beyond workouts. It’s about building a place where people know your name, push you to show up, and make St. Pete feel a little more like home.

From The Body Shop to Sweat St. Pete

Jodi started as a group fitness instructor when she was 23 and never really stopped. Fitness became her lane because she kept showing up, learning, coaching, and building trust with people over time.

Opening her own gym was never the original plan. But after years of growing her classes and building a loyal group, the opportunity became too clear to ignore.

Before Sweat St. Pete, Jodi had a smaller gym called The Body Shop. She and her husband put real work into it themselves, floors, walls, equipment, all of it.

As the community grew, they needed more space. That move led to a full rebrand, and Jodi landed on a name that said exactly what people came there to do: Sweat.

Why Sweat St. Pete Feels Different?

Sweat St. Pete isn’t trying to be the trendiest gym in town, and that’s exactly why it works. The workouts are built on simple, proven things, strength training, conditioning, boxing, lifting, and real group energy. You don’t walk in wondering what to do or feeling like you need to already be in shape. You show up, get coached, and leave feeling like you actually did something for yourself.

But what really makes it stand out is the community. Coaches know your name, members push each other, and before long you start seeing familiar faces not just in the gym, but around St. Pete. That matters here. A lot of people move to St. Pete looking for connection, and places like Sweat St. Pete make it easy to find it without forcing it.

Built With Culture in Mind

Jodi is very clear about protecting the culture inside the gym. She doesn’t want Sweat St. Pete to feel like a random room full of people doing separate workouts.

The coaches set the tone. They lead the room, encourage members, and make sure people feel seen. That kind of detail is what turns a gym into a community.

A St. Pete Locals Watching the City Grow

Jodi has been in St. Pete since she was two, so she has seen the city change up close. Downtown is busier, the food scene is bigger, and new buildings keep going up.

But even with all the growth, St. Pete still has that local feel. People support small businesses, know each other through different circles, and keep the city’s personality alive.

This episode is a good reminder that community does not happen by accident. It comes from people like Jodi who care enough to build it the right way.

Sweat St. Pete gives locals more than a place to work out. It gives people a reason to show up, connect, and feel part of something.
